Inside the Episode

The Memphis Grizzlies are poised for another great year after reaching the Western Conference Semi-Finals a year ago. We were happy to be joined on the podcast this week by the man at the helm of this great organization, Taylor Jenkins! Coach Jenkins is widely considered one of the great young coaches in the NBA and after only a few minutes of listening to our conversation it’s easy to see why. As usual we dove into a variety of topics including:

  • Organization and Efficiency Within Your Program: Coach Jenkins is well known for his efficiency when it comes to all parts of the Memphis organization, so we had a blast deep diving on how he thinks about this vital coaching fundamental.
  • Practice Planning: Within our conversation about efficiency, we also picked Coach Jenkins’ brain on how he organizes practice to align with team and individual goals. We also talked about building better decision making, individual improvement, and much more.
  • Analytics that Matter: During our “Start, Sub, or Sit!?” segment we discussed Coach Jenkins’ approach to stats and analytics that matter to him and his staff. Hint… he enjoys using the Adjusted Plus/Minus quite a bit.
  • Manipulating Tag Defenders: We also touched on manipulating help or tag defenders during our “Start, Sub, or Sit?!” conversation and how Coach Jenkins thinks about creating space for a player like Ja Morant.
