Inside the Episode
It was a terrific week on the podcast as we sat down with the wife/husband duo leading Florida International University WBB, Head Coach Jesyka Burks-Wiley and Assistant Dan Wendt. We had a blast weaving in and out of both coaches’ past experiences and unique points of view when it comes to running a program together with highlights including:
- Emotional IQ for Players and Staffs: Coach Burks-Wiley and Wendt both shared their thoughts on the importance of helping build Emotional IQ as a staple of their program for both the staff and in their players. A great conversation on how off the court wellbeing translates into culture and on-court performance.
- Tying Player Development to Overall Scheme: Coach Wendt comes from a Player Development background, with experience in the NBA and G-League, so we had fun picking both his and Coach Burks-Wiley’s brains on how they think about how a Player Development Program compliments the overall offensive and defensive scheme for FIU.
- “Start, Sub, or Sit?!”: We played the “Newly Wed” version of “Start, Sub, or Sit?!” and dove into both coaches thoughts on pressure defensive systems and attacking the top of a zone.
