It’s hard to imagine a coach who’s had as much of an impact on the way the modern game of basketball is played then former NBA Head Coach, Mike D’Antoni. Coach D’Antoni joined us on the podcast this week to peel back the layers and share his thoughts on a number of topics including:

  • Space and Pace: Like mentioned, Coach D’Antoni is credited with influencing much of what we see in the modern game and we dove headfirst into the history, philosophy, analytics, and teaching points of his famed “7 seconds or less” and “pace and space” offense. A highly entertaining segment.
  • Honest and Consistent Leadership: During “Start, Sub, or Sit?!” we explore some of the qualities Coach D’Antoni feels are most important when navigating the tougher parts of a season. His thoughts on the value of honesty with all members of the organization are terrific.
  • Challenging Your Best Players: Coach D’Antoni has coached some of the most talented players to ever lace em’ up, and we picked his brain on how he continued to coach and motivate them to new heights. Though we might never coach a Kobe Bryant or Steve Nash his observations on helping the best strive for more are highly transferable to any level.
