Inside the Episode

It was a blast this week to sit down with former NBA Head Coach, and current Consultant with the Brooklyn Nets, Steve Clifford! Coach Clifford is well known for his defensive acumen and we discussed that side of the ball, along with many other topics with him including:

  • Conducting a Great “Post Season Analysis”: For many of us, the offseason has officially begun, and Coach Clifford walks us through his thoughts on conducting a review of the most recent season. We discuss meetings with players and staff, self reflection, how to improve in weaker areas, learning from other sports, and much more. Tons of great nuggets of wisdom in this segment as we all begin preparing for next year.
  • The Difference Between “Good” and “Productive” Practices: Coach Clifford details how we can fall into the trap of thinking a practice is “good” because of the flow, snappy new drills, etc., while not truly be “productive.” We talk about how some practices can be slow, boring, and not something you’d see at a clinic, but can actually be more productive to helping your team get better at the most important things.
  • “Start, Sub, or Sit?!”: During this always fun and surprising segment we dive into pressing in the postseason, “Drop” Coverage footwork, and the key fundamentals of elite defenses.
