Inside the Episode
We were thrilled to be joined on the podcast this week by one of the best players and passers in the Euroleague, former Portland Pilot and current ALBA Berlin standout, Luke Sikma. Luke is in the midst of a tremendous season for Berlin and we were happy to explore a variety of interesting topics with him including:
- Understanding and Developing a Role: Luke discussed the different roles he’s found himself in throughout his career and the ways that coaches helped him both understand and develop in those positions. From at times being both a backup and a centerpiece of a team, Luke walks us through his thoughts on how he’s developed a mindset to put the team first and help others do the same.
- The Art of Passing: If you watch ALBA Berlin play for only a few minutes, the the thing that jumps off the screen is that Sikma is as elite as they come as a passer. His vision, anticipation, and willingness to set up others is fun to watch, and we can only assume very fun to play with. Luke discusses how he developed and honed his skill as a passer.
- Handling Post Doubles: Within our conversation about passing, we wandered into the area of handling post traps/double teams. Luke talks us through his reads and overall thoughts when a team is sending a double his way.
- “Start, Sub, or Sit?!”: During this always fun and interesting segment we discuss flipping screens, late game timeouts, and much more.
