Inside the Episode

We were excited to be joined this week on the Slappin’ Glass Podcast by Pro Scout for the Boston Celtics, Brandon Bailey. Coach Bailey has enjoyed success as both a Head Coach at the G-League level, as well as an assistant under Brad Stevens. Coach Bailey shared a variety of great thoughts on subjects both on and off the court including:

  • Avoiding Mid-Season Burnout: We discussed what Coach Bailey has learned through the years on some of the more effective ways to avoid over-work and over-stressing during a long season.
  • Building Better Individual and Team Defenders: Coach Bailey talks about ways that coaches can think about building better defenders from a technical and decision-making standpoint. The conversation also flows into how this plays into the larger schemes of team defense.
  • Footwork and Angles of “ICE” PNR Coverage: We break down some of the specifics of “ICING” ballscreens including footwork, angles, physicality, and emergencies when beaten.
  • “Nexting” and “Peeling” Empty Side PNR’s: Coach Bailey talks about how NBA teams are starting to utilize the “Next” PNR Defense seen throughout Europe, especially on an Empty Corner PNR.
  • And much more…
